Organizational Needs Assessment
We design both quantitative and qualitative assessments to measure gaps between current state and desired future state of culture. These assessments identify improvement opportunities, and we make recommendations on how to move toward achieving the desired future state.
Our assessments can also:
- Identify what the organization can do to achieve strategy, goals and objectives.
- Help establish values and desired cultural behaviors/norms.

Director of a Government Agency
Example organizational assessments we have done:
Large government agency 2019 - 2023
For 5 years we measured a key government agency's culture using the OCAI assessment. This assessment is based on Bob Quinn's Competing Values Framework which is a framework taught at the University of Michigan for making sense of organizational culture.
We gave the OCAI assessment to hundreds of leaders and employees across several organizations in this government agency. We were able to benchmark their current culture with their desired culture and assess the gaps. We made recommendations for closing the gaps, and held several leadership team offsites with teams to help close the gaps and achieve their desired culture. After 5 years, we saw substantial movement to their desired culture.
We were able to help them identify their vision, mission, values, operating norms, strategies and goals that aligned with their desired culture. The OCAI is an affordable assessment that can be given to 10 people or 50,000+ people at the same time. It can also be broken down by organization as well as rolled up to an entire company.
In addition to the OCAI, we also conducted several focus groups and individual key leader interviews to dive deeper into the root cause of the gaps. We conducting qualitative interviews with hundreds of leaders over the 5 year period as an initial benchmark, and continuing to check progress. This allowed us to make adjustments along the way to achieving their desired culture. 200 pages of negative benchmark interview data, was transformed into complete agreement that their cultural goals had been achieved and the issues identified corrected.
Non Profit AEO: Association for Enterprise Opportunity
In 2023, we conducted an organizational wide assessment to:
- Gain perspective on the team’s emotional state and dynamics
- Identify organizational gaps impeding AEO’s growth
- Uncover what is impacting AEO’s long term sustainability
- Prepare AEO to achieve their identified strategies
We conducted a quantitative survey organization wide, with follow up focus groups and targeted individual leader interviews. We then analyzed the data, wrote a full report including findings and recommendations, and then collaboratively wrote a presentation for the CEO of AEO to present to their Board of Directors recommending their path forward to achieve the goals of the organizational assessment.
Several customer assessments.
Fortune 50 Company -
For the past 15 years, we have been a chosen supplier of the same Fortune 50 organization to conduct targeted customer relationship assessments. We have used a combination of quantitative and qualitative assessments to test current customer satisfaction. We analyze assessment findings, write reports and presentations to communicate our findings as well as recommendations for improvement. We have also conducted many combined customer and prime contractor offsites to improve and repair important customer relationships. In several of these offsites, the customer was ready to cancel their contracts with the prime contractor prior to our assessment and offsites. Folowing IOL's assessments, recommendations and offsites, all of the customer relationships have significantly improved. We have a 100% success rate in repairing customer relationships. We have even done assessments at the start of a customer relationship to ensure that their hopes and expectations are met from the start.
